Management and Conservation

Landscapes require conservation and maintenance so that they remain vital and productive for future generations.  Landscape architects develop policies and actions to achieve this end, for both contemporary and historical landscapes.

Landscape management involves working with already-designed landscapes to ensure that they develop and mature in the way that was intended by the designer.  They also ensure that landscapes function to support their natural place in an ecosystem, providing habitats, fresh air, and, of course, pleasure for the people who use them.

Landscape management and conservation is accomplished in collaboration with people from a wide range of professions, including architects, archaeologists, hydrologists, surveyors and horticulturists. It is often landscape architects who co-ordinate these multi-disciplinary teams.
