Transportation

Imagine a road along which the views unfold and reveal themselves just like watching a film.  The parkway systems in the United States and the Autobahn in Germany were designed by landscape architects with exactly this experience in mind. Nowadays design for transportation corridors such as roads, rail and canals includes consideration for animal migration and biodiversity as well as the perspectives of the human user, landscape architects have just as strong a role as ever providing habitat as well as beauty.

As urban designers, landscape architects are helping plan public transportation links and major transport hubs such as London's King's Cross Central development.  They are also champions for alternative transportation, encouraging strategies for pedestrian and bicycle use.

Good transportation is crucial for sustainable communities, and alternative transportation could help us deal with climate change.
