Paj Valley

Paj Valley is head of Landscape and Urban Design at Scott Wilson, a multi-disciplinary company with offices across the UK.

Having studied landscape architecture at Manchester Metropolitan University, he has worked on a vast range of projects including a five star hotel in Dubai and the modernisation of the Bull Ring centre in Birmingham. He is currently working on a major regeneration project in a former mining area in Derbyshire.

Of the scheme in Derbyshire, Paj says: “The town and neighbouring towns and villages have died in effect because of the economic decline of the mining industry. We’re trying to regenerate that and we’re looking at creating an industrial business park for 380 hectares which will breathe life back into part of Derbyshire. It is painstakingly difficult at times but very rewarding.”

Scott Wilson has a varied client base, split between the public and private sector.

“Every day is a new challenge,” he says. “Each day I see different perspectives that influence me, excite me and it’s sometimes outside the profession. Knowing that we transform our visions into reality is an exciting thing for us.

“Landscape architecture is a fantastic profession. It encompasses many things – all aspects of art and science. It’s a great profession and everyone can find their own place within it.”
